Do you like to read and LOVE competition???
What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a reading enrichment activity offered through the North Carolina School Library Media Association. It is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The goal is to encourage children to read a wide variety of books that they may not discover otherwise, in a fun and interactive format. Participation is not a requirement for all students, only voluntary.
How will Battle of the Books work?
Students at NL Dillard Middle School who would like to participate will be asked to register as part of a team from now until October 5th (signed permission forms are due on this date). A reading list is found below. Books will be located at the circulation desk in the media center and are available to the team members as soon as students turn in their permission form. The books can also be checked out through the public library.
Students can talk about books with their teammates whenever they see each other. As students read books, taking notes or filling out a story map can help them think about important things from their reading.
What books are on the reading list?
A reading list (including book levels and author name) is located below.
Do I need to read all 27 books?
There are 27 books. You are encouraged to read as many of the books on the list as you can. You will be part of a team of 3, 4, or 5 students. Teams can split up the book titles to read, but the more titles you can read, the stronger your team will be. Each person will have the responsibility to read his or her fair share of books for the team (no fewer than 10 books).
What if I have already read some of the books?
You will be a much stronger team member if you can read them again!
